Technical Dossier
The Rorze RD Series of stepping motor drives occupies a well-established position in semiconductor wafer handling, flat panel display (FPD) manufacturing, and precision automation systems across global heavy industry. Deployed extensively in cleanroom environments — including chemical processing facilities, photovoltaic production lines, and precision assembly cells — the RD Series is recognized for its compact form factor, high-resolution microstepping capability, and deterministic motion control output. Units such as the RD-023MS are found in legacy RORZE robot controllers (RC series) and standalone motion stages where sub-micron repeatability is required. The series remains in active use across Asia-Pacific and European semiconductor fabs, with a significant installed base requiring long-term spare parts support.
The Rorze RD Series was developed to serve the motion control requirements of RORZE Corporation's proprietary robot and stage platforms. Early-generation units operated on fixed-step (full/half step) excitation with analog current control, interfacing directly with RORZE RC-series robot controllers via dedicated drive bus connectors. Mid-generation revisions introduced microstepping resolution (up to 1/16 step), improved thermal management through integrated heat-sink profiles, and expanded input voltage tolerance to accommodate both 24 VDC and 48 VDC bus architectures common in Japanese and Taiwanese fab equipment.
The RD-023MS represents the high-resolution microstepping variant within this lineage, designed for 2-phase bipolar stepping motors in the 0.23 A to 2.3 A current range. Its architecture uses PWM current chopping with selectable decay modes, making it compatible with a broad range of RORZE and third-party 2-phase motors. As RORZE has progressively migrated newer platforms to servo-based motion (RD-S and RC-7 series), the RD stepping drive series has entered a mature/end-of-life phase. Replacement units are no longer manufactured in volume, making secondary-market sourcing and lifecycle extension support critical for facilities maintaining legacy RORZE equipment.

As the Rorze RD Series has transitioned into end-of-life status, OEM factory stock is no longer available through standard distribution channels. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of tested RD Series units sourced from decommissioned semiconductor equipment, controlled factory overstock, and verified secondary-market channels. Our procurement team cross-references RORZE equipment serial numbers and BOM revisions to confirm exact hardware compatibility before shipment. For facilities operating RORZE RC-3, RC-5, or RC-7 robot controllers with legacy RD stepping drives, we provide direct replacement units with full functional verification. Long-term maintenance agreements (LTMAs) are available for facilities requiring guaranteed stock reservation across multi-year maintenance windows.
Each RD Series unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured test protocol specific to the electrical and mechanical characteristics of stepping motor drives. Testing includes: input voltage sweep across rated operating range (24 VDC / 48 VDC), output current verification at all selectable resolution settings (full, half, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 step), PWM chopper frequency and decay mode confirmation, thermal imaging under sustained load to identify degraded MOSFETs or driver ICs, and connector integrity inspection for the proprietary RORZE bus interface. Units with degraded current regulation, intermittent step loss, or bus communication faults are quarantined and not released for sale. All tested units are issued a DriveKNMS inspection report with measured parameters.
