SIMOREG DC drives evolved through three distinct generations. The first generation (1980s) used analog firing boards with discrete component current regulators; field replacement required oscilloscope-level calibration. The second generation introduced the SIMOREG K (6RA22/6RA24) platform with hybrid analog-digital control, retaining analog current loops but adding digital speed reference via PROFIBUS-DP option boards. The third and current generation — SIMOREG D (6RA70) and SIMOREG CM (6RA80) — implements fully digital closed-loop control via SIMOLINK fiber-optic ring or PROFIBUS, with parameterization through DriveMonitor or STARTER software.

The C98043-Axxxx board numbering system identifies individual PCB assemblies within SIMOREG 6RA70 converters. Compatibility is chassis-specific: boards designed for 6RA7013–6RA7031 (compact units) differ in connector layout from those used in 6RA7075–6RA7095 (cabinet units).
