Technical Dossier
The YOKOGAWA YHC4150X series represents the field-proven HART communicator platform deployed across global heavy industry installations, including petrochemical complexes, nuclear power auxiliary systems, offshore oil & gas platforms, and continuous-process refineries. The YHC4150X functions as the primary handheld interface for commissioning, diagnostics, and calibration of HART-protocol field instruments — including transmitters, control valves, and analyzers — operating on 4–20 mA loops. Its installed base spans YOKOGAWA CENTUM VP, CENTUM CS 3000, and ProSafe-RS integrated safety systems, as well as third-party DCS environments where HART pass-through is enabled. The communicator supports HART revision 5, 6, and 7 device description (DD) libraries, making it a universal diagnostic tool across multi-vendor field device populations.
The YHC4150X series succeeded the earlier YOKOGAWA BT200 BRAIN terminal and the YHC5150X communicator platform. The architectural transition from BT200 to YHC4150X introduced full HART 7 compliance, an expanded DD library with over 1,200 device types, and a color LCD interface replacing the earlier monochrome display. The YHC4150X-01 variant introduced USB connectivity for DD library updates and data logging export, replacing the earlier serial-port synchronization method of predecessor units.
Compatibility considerations are significant in brownfield environments: the YHC4150X communicates with any HART-compliant device operating at loop currents between 4 mA and 20 mA with a minimum loop resistance of 250 Ω. In YOKOGAWA CENTUM VP environments, the communicator interfaces via the HART multiplexer (HFAM) cards installed in the field control station (FCS). In legacy CENTUM CS 3000 installations, HART pass-through is supported through the AMM12 and AMM22 analog I/O modules. The YHC4150X is not compatible with FOUNDATION Fieldbus or PROFIBUS PA devices — those protocols require the YHC5150X or dedicated FF/PA handheld tools.
As of 2024, the YHC4150X series has entered the mature/end-of-active-production phase. YOKOGAWA continues to provide spare parts and DD library updates under its long-term maintenance support (LTMS) program, but new unit procurement is increasingly fulfilled through authorized secondary-market distributors. DriveKNMS maintains dedicated stock of YHC4150X units and accessories to support lifecycle extension for existing installations.

DriveKNMS operates as a specialized secondary-market distributor for YOKOGAWA YHC4150X series units and accessories. As the YHC4150X transitions from active production to lifecycle support status, procurement through standard distribution channels becomes increasingly unreliable. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory buffer of complete communicator units, battery packs, charging cradles, and cable assemblies sourced from decommissioned plant assets, authorized surplus channels, and direct factory overstock.
For end-users operating YOKOGAWA CENTUM VP or CS 3000 installations with existing YHC4150X fleets, DriveKNMS provides: unit-level replacement sourcing, battery refurbishment and replacement, DD library update support, and firmware version matching to ensure compatibility with existing plant HART infrastructure. All units are supplied with full traceability documentation and, where applicable, original YOKOGAWA calibration certificates.
Each YHC4150X unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured inspection and functional verification protocol prior to dispatch. The procedure addresses the specific failure modes documented in the YHC4150X field service history: LCD backlight degradation, battery contact corrosion, HART modem circuit drift, and USB sync port mechanical wear.
Functional verification steps include: HART loop connection test at 250 Ω and 500 Ω load resistances, DD library integrity check against the current YOKOGAWA release index, battery capacity verification under 8-hour discharge simulation, USB data sync handshake test with YHC4150X-SW software, and keypad actuation test across all 26 input keys. Units exhibiting modem circuit drift exceeding ±2% of the HART FSK frequency specification (1,200 Hz / 2,200 Hz) are rejected and flagged for component-level repair before re-evaluation.
All inspected units are issued a DriveKNMS inspection report referencing the unit serial number, firmware version, DD library version, and test date. This documentation supports plant maintenance records and regulatory audit requirements in ISO 9001 and IEC 61511 compliance environments.
