Technical Dossier
The HIMA F-Series represents one of the most widely deployed safety-rated I/O and controller module families in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical complexes, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and refinery process units, F-Series modules operate under IEC 61508 SIL 2/3 certification requirements. Their modular backplane architecture allows integration into HIMatrix and HIQuad safety controllers, making them a backbone component in emergency shutdown (ESD), fire and gas (F&G), and burner management systems (BMS) worldwide. The F6705, a 2-fold analog output module, is representative of the F-Series I/O layer: deterministic, fault-tolerant, and designed for continuous operation in classified hazardous environments.
HIMA's F-Series architecture was introduced as part of the HIMatrix platform, designed to replace earlier relay-based and first-generation programmable safety systems. Early F-Series modules used parallel backplane communication with fixed-slot addressing. As the platform matured, HIMA introduced high-speed serial backplane buses, enabling faster diagnostic cycle times and tighter integration with the ELOP II Factory engineering environment.
The F6xxx sub-family (analog I/O) evolved from single-channel designs to multi-fold configurations (2-fold, 4-fold) to support redundant sensor loops without external multiplexing hardware. Compatibility between F-Series generations is managed through firmware versioning in the HIMatrix controller CPU; older analog modules such as the F6701 and F6703 remain electrically compatible with current HIMatrix X backplanes but require legacy ELOP II project files. Modules entering end-of-life status (e.g., F3330, F3236) are no longer manufactured but remain supported through third-party MRO channels for installed base maintenance.

Communication & Power Modules
A significant portion of the global F-Series installed base consists of modules that HIMA has discontinued or placed on limited availability. Models such as the F3236, F3330, F6701, and F6703 are no longer in active production. For plant operators running long-lifecycle safety systems — common in nuclear, refining, and offshore sectors where system replacement cycles span 15–25 years — sourcing these modules through OEM channels is no longer viable.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of tested F-Series spare modules sourced from decommissioned systems, authorized surplus, and controlled MRO channels. Each unit is cataloged by part number, hardware revision, and firmware version to ensure compatibility with the customer's existing HIMatrix or HIQuad project configuration. Lifecycle extension support includes cross-reference to current HIMA replacement recommendations where applicable.
F-Series modules use a proprietary backplane bus protocol with active diagnostic handshaking between the CPU and each I/O slot. Standard bench testing is insufficient to validate module health; DriveKNMS employs a structured test protocol specific to the F-Series architecture:
All F-Series modules shipped by DriveKNMS include a test report with channel-level data and are packaged in ESD-safe materials with humidity indicators.
